Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to : (a) Facility; On or about December 28, 2001, there were no monthly documented inspections of the hoists in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations. These hoists include, but are not limited to the five Bushman hoists in the Low Bay and the Bushman hoist in the Wash/Kitting Bay. The following deficiencies were noted: (1) Low Bay; On or about December 28, 2001, the latch was not properly functioning on the one half ton Bushman hoist at column B7. The spring was broken. (2) Wash/Kitting Bay; On or about December 28, 2001, the latch was not properly functioning on the one and one half ton Bushman hoist. A missing bolt caused the latch to not operate properly. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to develop a preventative maintenance program which incorporates all recommendations outlined in the manufacturer's manuals with written, signed and dated reports and also in accordance with ANSI B30.11 in order to ensure a safe and properly functioning hoist.oning
