Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling trusses as a result of the trusses not being braced in accordance with the requirements of the Truss Plate Institute. At the jobsite at 1530 East Algonquin, IL, proper bracing was not being used as specified in the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet which specifies that bracing for trusses having a span of greater than 60 feet must be designed by a Registered Professional Engineer. One feasible method of abatement would be to follow the recommendations contained in the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet. CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
