Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: Bolton Brite Way Cleaners, Inc. dba Brite Way Cleaners, Lubbock, Texas; For the period of time up to and including August 19, 2003, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from the hazards of heat stress. An employee required medical evacuation from the workplace due to high temperature. This condition exposed employees to work conditions which can cause illness such as, but not limited to, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and or heat stroke. Feasible and acceptable methods to correct this hazard includes, but are not limited to. a) Following the guidelines of the ACGIH TLV booklet to limit heat induced work injuries. b) Implement engineering controls adequate for laundering and dry cleaning operations. c) Implement administrative controls such as, but not limited to, employee breaks and rotation for recovery. d) Implement work practices such as, but not limited to, employee training on the signs and symptoms of heat stress hazards.
