Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a.On or about July 20, 2001, Truck and Rail Load Out Facilities, employees with no fall protection were atop rail car hoppers to check the integrity of the contents, exposing employees to a fall hazard of 15 feet, 3 inches. b.On or about July 20, 2001, Truck and Rail Load Out Facilities, employees with no fall protection were required to verify that the hopper trailer was empty, on a 5 feet, 4-1/4-inch long, by 5-inch wide platform with no guardrails, on the front and back side of the Timpte Trailer, VIN H4222 4 VBO91772 TRA, exposing the employees to a 7 feet, 3-inch fall hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard would be to install a fall protection systems, and to train employees regarding the use of the fall protection systems. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.
