Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling loads : (a)1404 First St. N., Nampa, Idaho: On or about October 12, 2001 and at times prior thereto an inappropriate piece of equipment was used to handle pieces of 4 and 8 inch steel pipe in lengths ranging from approximately 13 feet to 21 feet. (b)1404 First St. N., Nampa, Idaho: On or about October 12, 2001 and at times prior thereto employees were allowed to stand in the path of the falling load of the forklift truck. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a device that is designed specifically for pipe handling. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
