Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to being struck by felling trees: (a) Subdivision Construction site on Lot 5 of Cash Farm: An employee was struck by a falling tree that was being uprooted 70 feet away from where he was sawing felled trees into logs. Hazard of being struck by a falling tree. Among other methods, two feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to: (1) Ensure that designated work areas are assigned at least two tree lengths from adjacent occupied work areas. (2) Ensure employees have received adequate training in how to safely determine where designated work areas should be located. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
