Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees: (a)Date of Violation:09/21/00 Location:North Side of House on Second Floor Condition:Employees were exposed to hazards associated with floor joist collapse due to the placement of loads on the unbraced and unsheathed joists. Among others, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturers installation guidelines including the installation of lateral bracing before allowing employees to walk on the joists, and the installation of sheathing before stacking building materials on them. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
