Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Title 40.1-51.1 (a), Code of Virginia: In stair way # 8, (at the southwest corner of the building), on the ground level employees installing rubber stair treads on to the poured concrete pan stairs are exposed to hazards of fire, flash fire and/or explosion due to them not following the manufactures written hazard warnings printed on the embossed labeling on the five (5) gallon container of Parabond M250 Contact Cement; in that they used an open flame propane torch in the area of the open container of the contact cement and where the contact cement had been applied to the rubber stair treads and the concrete stairs. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD, AMONG OTHERS, TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO READ THE MANUFACTURES LABELING ON THE CONTAINER OF PARABOND M250 PRIOR TO ITS USE. The hazard warnings on the labeling warn of the high flammability of the contact cement and the vapors can cause a flash fire and be explosive.
