North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: 1)Employer Carolina Vegetables failed to furnish to each employee a temporary labor camp free from recognized hazards in that electrical light fixtures, and electrical outlet in camp # 2 on Vera Cruz Rd., had live exposed wiring with no cover plates. Additionally Camp # 1 on Lake Artesia Rd., had electrical light fixture, fuse box, and electrical conduit with live exposed wiring in the utility room. Finally in the kitchen of camp # 1 gas stoves had no handles which exposed workers to possible gas fumes and vapors due to inability to ensure gas supply was properly cut off. The hazard exists that workers in the temporary labor camp will contact electricity, resulting in serious physical harm or death to migrant farm workers living in the temporary labor camp site. Among others one appropriate and feasible method of abatement is to reattach all electrical fixtures to walls, repair outlets and install cover plates, repair electrical conduit, and supply blank spacers in fuse box, and install handles on gas stoves to ensure workers can properly shut off gas supply.y
