Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of serious bodily injury from an exploding or rupturing pressurized pipe transporting corrosive chemicals: (a) Location - East side roadway of job site, Everett, MA: On or about 04/11/02, employees were exposed to chemical burns and impalement injuries from the pressurized discharge pipe, containing corrosive chemicals, placed adjacent to the roadway and material storage. Among other methods, feasible means of abatement include, but are not limited to the following: 1. The relocation of the pressurized pipe in an area where it would not be subject to damage from vehicular traffic or material storage. 2. The installation of barriers around pipe to protect it from damage.
