Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to severe burns and smoke inhalation from a defective evaporator unit: Cleaning Bay - An employee was injured on January 30, 2002 because the Alkota Model 15/20 Evaporator had the manufacturer's installation of a nine inch vent pipe reduced to six inches and the units high limit safety circuit was removed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to reinstall the Alkota 15/20 Evaporator to the manufacturer's installation instructions and operating manual.
