Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to internal injuries, fractures, or death from possible collapse of roofs, buildings, barns, and structures: In the following instances roofs, buildings, barns, and structures were not properly constructed or maintained: a)Barn 81 - The five wooden trusses on the west end of the roof contained improperly installed or seated connector plates. b)Plant 3 - The west end of the small cooler was missing seven trusses. c)Plant 3 - The upper section of the wall above the loading dock doors in the small cooler was rotated outward two inches. d)Feed Mill - The concrete walls and ceiling of the transformer vault were cracked and deformed. e)Feed Mill - The roof of the salt tank or silo was corroded and contained numerous holes. f)Feed Mill - The outside wall of the finish feed tank or silo was bowed outward several inches. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to evaluate all structures at the farm and replace or reinforce defective roofs, buildings, barns, and structures.
