Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fractures, internal injuries, and death due to collision and fall hazards while working or riding in the elevated buckets or attachments of material handling equipment: G.E. Goding & Son Plant - On or about June 21, 2001, two scale technicians received serious injuries while working in the elevated bucket of a Caterpillar loader. The technicians and the bucket of the loader collided with the wooden overhang of the concrete batch plant. One of the technicians died as a result of the collision. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a scaffold system to reach elevated locations during scale calibration.
