Section 88.4 - Code of Iowa (2001) 88.4: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to anhydrous ammonia: (a)Dump Room - An employee was required to change a solenoid valve on a hot gas ammonia line. While performing this maintenance duty the employee was exposed to anhydrous ammonia. The piping and valves upstream and down stream were not labeled to ensure proper identification of these components. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use the guidelines for Identification of Ammonia Refrigeration Piping and System Components. Bulletin No. 114. This condition existed on or about 05/12/01.
