Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of accidental activation of the press brake when hand feeding and holding metal sheets into the die area: (a)On or about 8/2/00 in the Low Bay; a Verson model B96, serial number 9859, press brake did not have a guard over the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation of the press brake. ANSI Standard B11.3-1982, paragraph 4.2.4.1.4 states "When a mechanical foot pedal is furnished with the power press brake, a means shall be provided for preventing accidental operation of the power press brake." One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to put a gover guard over the foot pedal. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
