Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injuries: In the Production Area, employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a load suspended from the Twin City Monorail Co. Underhung Crane due to the fact that the employer failed to establish and follow a program of frequent and periodic inspections of the crane system. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: a)establish and follow a program of frequent and periodic inspections of the crane system in accordance with ASME B30.11-1998, American Society of Mechanical Engineers for Monorails and Underhung Cranes, Section 11-2.1.5.
