Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevations while riding on a pallet placed on the forks of a rough terrain forklift truck: a). South end of building. On or about 4/14/00, an employee was observed standing on a wooded pallet that was placed on the forks of a Pettibone C-8000 all terrain forklift truck. The employee was lowered down from a scaffold platform that ranged from 13ft.8in. to 14ft. high. The pallet was not secured and no fall protection was being utilized. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION IS: 1.) To prohibit the use of rough terrain forklift trucks to lift people unless there is no other practical option as specified by ASME B56.6-1992, Part II, section 5.15.1, An American National Standard for Powered Industrial Trucks / Safety Standards for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks. Provide a ladder for employee(s) to gain access to and from scaffold platforms and instruct the employee(s) to use the ladder. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIREDATION
