Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Electrical burns and shock from high voltage of 14,400 volts. At the jobsite on Sharon Church Road, on or about 10-17-2000; during stringing operations, employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards with voltages of 14,400 vots to ground and 24,400 volts phase to phase as the puller operator was not at the control station during the stringing operation. The operator could not make immediate adjustments to the equipment in the event of a snag, or slow the equipment down to prevent materials and equipment from becoming energized. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the operator remains at the operator control station while the puller is operation.
