Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: On or about 11/7/00 employees working on unstable roof trusses were exposed to the trusses being displaced. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to anchor the bridging lines in order to provide lateral stability and support as specified in the Steel Joist Institute (SJI), Section 105.C. This is also referenced in the erection drawings prepared and supplied by Vulcraft dated October 24, 2000, in which it stated "ERECTOR NOTE. For the Safety of Your Workers, Do not allow anyone on joist until they have been made stable enough to prevent them from overturning".
