Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(A)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act The employer did not furnish to employees a place of employment which was free of recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. On or about 07/24 employees were allowed to operate forklifts without wearing seat belts which were part of a Roll Over Protection System. Thus exposing employees to possible crushing injuries. Among other methods,one feasible and acceptable method to correct this problem is for the employer to ensure that the employees use the seat belts when operating the equipment. Reference Section 5.3.18(f) of ANSI B56.1-1993 Safety Standard for Low lift and high lift trucks. Also, check the manufacturers marking on the truck which requires the use of the seat belt.
