Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the following condition(s): a) For the period of time up to and including 7 Sep 00, calendar (intermediate) rolls used in the various paper machines in the facility were not inspected to determine the existance of cracking in areas of high stress concentration. The calendar rolls used in the paper machines have been in service for up to approximately 30 years and are only removed periodically (8-12 months) for polishing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is conduct non-destructive testing of the rolls when they are periodically removed for polishing.ly
