Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the dump body vehicle was not equipped with a support to prevent the dump body from being accidentally lowered while work is in progress beneath the raised body. One method among other feasible methods to correct the condition is to have a positive means of support installed on the vehicle, and in use, prior to or to allow work to proceed. Jobsite: 556 Elm Street, Kingston, Massachusetts, 02364 On or about August 8, 2000, an employee was seriously injured while working beneath the elevated dump body of a 1993 GMC one (1) ton truck, MA Reg. # E68532, where the vehicle was not equipped with a positive means of support, permenantly attached to the vehicle, and capable of being locked in position to prevent the accidental lowering of the dump body while maintenance or inspection work is performed.
