Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a), Annotated Code of Maryland: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:On or about 01/05/00 Location:Southeast Corner, Block Stockpile Area Condition:An employee rigging 2' by 2' by 8' concrete blocks, each weighing approximately 4600 lbs. which were being moved using a track excavator stayed in such proximity to the blocks while being hoisted that he could be struck by the load. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to keep all employees clear of loads about to be lifted and of suspended loads, and to use tag lines to control the load. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
