Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of falling from an elevation: a) U. S. Engineering Co. & the intersection of 15th St. & Arapahoe St., Denver, CO: On or before 07-22-99 the employer failed to ensure that employee(s) did not ride and/or work from the boom of a Bantam 15-ton crane (SN 756). One employee was observed riding the extended boom at a height of approximately 15 feet. The employer failed to meet the requirements specified in section 5-3.2.2 of ASME B30.5-1994, the standard for mobile cranes. Employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of falling from an elevation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to follow the guidelines specified in ASME B30.5-1994 as well as the manufacturer's operating manual and company policy. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
