Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards associated with the failure to use seatbelts: a.On November 3, 2000, in the warehouse, an employee who drove a Caterpillar forklift, (Serial No. SK BO1492, Vehical No. 880901) was not wearing his seatbelt, while moving large sacks of beans from a railway car to a trailer, exposing the employee to crushing hazards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to enforce the use of seatbelts at all times when the forklifts are in operation. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED.TION
