Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: a.On or about July 7, 1999 at 279 Bond Rd., employees were exposed to crushing hazards, because jacks were not placed behind each axle of the mobile home when jacking it from its concrete pillars, and an employee was allowed to crawl under the mobile home while it was being jacked or raised. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturer's recommendation to use two jacks, one behind and one in front of the axles, and to start jacking from the rear while keeping the lift as even as possible, and never allow anyone under a mobile home while it is being jacked or raised.
