Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to heat stress: a) Casella Brothers, Inc., Swedesboro, NJ - Employees who were exposed to hot and humid conditions while harvesting vegetables suffered from heat stress, and one employee died from hyperthermia (exertional heat stroke) on July 5, 1999. The employer failed to train employees in the control of heat stress and in the recognition, prevention, and treatment of heat illnesses. On or about September 7, 2000.
