Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falling: (a) Jobsite/Storefront - Employee(s) was observed working approximately 12 feet high on a Self Propelled Elevating Platform ¿JLG Sizzor Lift!, Model # 2033 exposed to a fall hazard. The collapsible rails of the work platform were not fully extended to 42 inches, as required; the top rail was 27 inches high; On or about 10/19/99. ABATEMENT NOTES: Among other methods, one feasible method to reduce this hazard is to: 1.(a) Perform workplace inspections as outlined in ANSI standard A92.6-1990 section 8.7 "Workplace Inspection" which states: "Before the aerial platform is used and during use, the operator shall check the area in which the aerial platform is to be used for possible hazards such as, but not limited to: (1)Drop-offs or holes (2)Bumps and floor obstructions (3)Debris (4)Overhead obstructions and high voltage conductors (5)Hazardous locations (6)Inadequate surface and support to withstand all load forces imposed by the aerial platform in all operating configurations (7)Wind and weather conditions (8)Other possible unsafe conditions. (*) (*)(guardrails shall be 42 inches high; +/- 3in) ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19
