Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket: (a)At the Job-Site/East - Employees working about 20ft high on a Self Propelled JLG Lift Rough Terrain Truck with an Articulating Boom and Platform, Model #GOH46, Serial #025214; Personal Fall Arrest equipment full body harness & lanyard! was not provided; On or about 9/7/99. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1)Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992-Boom Supported Elevating Work Platforms,section 8.8 states: "Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times"; and 2)Train the employees in the proper procedures while operating aerial lifts, such as, but not limited to, the wearing of a safety belt with lanyard. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19
