Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY FLYING PARTICLES: a)Cast Shop, Reline Area, on or about 1/11/00: (1) floor mounted masonry saw with a 14 inch diameter diamond cutting saw blade. The semi-circular enclosure over the saw blade was not of such design as to restrain the pieces of the saw blade in the event that the blade is broken in operation. ABATEMENT NOTES: 1.Ensure that the semi-circular enclosure over the saw blade incorporate in it's design a device to restrain pieces of a saw blade per American National Standards Institute, ANSI A10.9-1983 / ANSI A10.9a-1989, Section 11.3.1.
