Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of structural collapse: (a)5296 S. Heyrend Drive, Idaho Falls, ID - On or about November 24, 1999, and at times prior thereto, the building under construction was not adequately braced to prevent collapse. "AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE PROVIDE BY THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE HANDBOOK - RECOMMENDED DESIGN SPECIFICATION FOR TEMPORARY BRACING OF METAL PLATE CONNECTED WOOD TRUSSES (DSB-89) AND THE COMMENTARY AND RECOMMENDATION FOR HANDLING INSTALLING AND BRACING METAL PLATE CONNECTED WOOD TRUSSES (HIB-91). IN ADDITION, ATTACH WOOD COLUMN/POST TO STANDOFF POST BASE PER MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATION. SIMPSON STRONG-TIE CATALOG C- 99, PAGE 5, GENERAL NOTES, PARAGRAPH h STATES THROUGH BOLTS MUST BE USED THAT ARE EQUAL TO OR BETTER THAN ASTM STANDARD A 307, GRADE A; PAGE 26 FOR A CBS44 STANDOFF BASE REQUIRES A 5/8 INCH DIAMETER THROUGH BOLT. LAG BOLTS MAY NOT BE USED IN PLACE OF THROUGH BOLTS, PER MANUFACTURER". Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required for this item.
