Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion: (a)Office area: The natural gas service line regulator and meter located on the west side of the office were not installed where they will be reasonably be protected by distance or barriers from damage by vehicular traffic or heavy equipment, as required by ANSI/ASME B31.8-1968 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems 848.1(c). Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is guarding the gas piping by use of concrete or other effective barrier to prevent contact by heavy equipment. Note: Abatement certification required for this item.
