Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an explosion hazard: (a)At Jindal United Steel Corporation, 5200 Mckinney, Baytown Tx., Natural Gas was not odorized for leak detection. Natural gas is used for furnaces, for the Ultraline portable slab cutters, and there natural gas lines throughout the mill. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement is to odorize the natural gas for early detection of leaks as recommended by the Texas Administration Code (TAC) Title 16, Part 1, Chapter 7, Subchapter B, Rule 7.71 (b)(1). *** Certification and Documentation of Abatement Required ***
