Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed: (a) Layup Department - Lab Line # 2 On 07/01/99, employee entered scissor lift pit to remove wooden stiles, used in the manufacturing of doors, and the scissor lift had not been braced to prevent the lift from descending, on or about 07/01/99. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO: 1. Follow the American Lift's Hydraulic Scissor Lift's Operating & Maintenance Instructions concerning the use of vertical supports, or built in maintenance device under lift deck to prevent lift from lowering. 2. Follow the ANSI MH 29.1-1994 Standard, Section 9, Maintenance Device, which states "that lifts shall be provided with a securely attached device to block the lift in a raised position, for the performance of routine maintenance or service procedures" 3. Enforce procedures developed and instituted via company memorandum dated 07/09/99.m
