Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injury and broken bones. a. 7/20/01-Amherst Plaza-The roof trusses on the new addition were not braced properly, subjecting workers to injury when the roof and walls collapsed. Abatement Note: One method of abatement would be to follow the guidelines provided in the HIB-91 Summary Sheet from the Truss Plate Institute including but not limited to, exterior bracing of the walls and 2"x4" for temporary bracing of trusses.
