Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: At 495 West Main Street, Canfield, Ohio on 02/01/00: Two employees were exposed to fall injuries from an elevation of 18'-2" after the collapse of an improperly constructed working surface. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means to ensure structural integrity of the platform and correct the hazardous condition may include: a. Provide a design from a design professional licensed in the State of Ohio to perform construction design work. b. Apply for a building permit with local building authorities to ensure compliance with applicable local construction codes. c. Ensure that the construction is accomplished by an experienced construction professional. d. Provide fall protection equipment and training to employees on the applicable fall protection Safety Standards.
