Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to increased severity of injury: (a) Various construction sites - Employees who perform work activities where there is a potential for flash fires are required to wear uniforms that are made of polyester fibers under Nomex coveralls. When exposed to high temperatures, polyester melts and will stick to skin. Among other methods, one acceptable means of abatement would be to require employees to wear clothing constructed of 100cotton under Nomex coveralls.
