Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to hazard of trips and falls: (a)Rough Mill, Conveyors installed within 7 feet of the floor or walkway surface were not provided with crossover(s) or passageway(s) or with telltales indicating low headroom: 1) No crossovers for Cutoff Operator Stations 1 and 2; 2) No low headroom warning on walkway underneath the tipple transfer platform and outfeed belt for rough planer #1. (Reference ANSI B20.1-1957, Safety Code for Conveyors, Section 7, Design and Installation, Paragraph 705, Crossovers, Aisles, Passages, and Stairways.) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this condition is to construct a crossover and using yellow paint identify physical hazard warnings as specified in 29 CFR 1910.144.
