Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries, in that tag lines and proper rigging methods were not used while moving a section of pipe. a) 22500 Road 31, Delores, CO: On or about September 6, 1998 and times prior to, employees were exposed to crushing injuries while in the process of moving a section of pipe without the use of a tag line and properly rigged methods. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to use tag lines to control the load and to keep employees out from under the load. Ensure slings are connected to proper lifting points prior to the lift, and ensure slings are centered to keep the loads level and under control.
