Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. a)Warehouse, Royal Horowitz/Rae A Royal Horowitz/Rae employee was raised on a pallet by a forklift truck approximately 14.5 feet to knock down a pipe. The Employee did not use an appropriate safety platform or other fall protection, and was exposed to a fall hazard of 14 feet to the concrete floor below. Violation observed on or about 4/1/99. Abatement notes:Among others, one suitable method for abating this hazardous condition is: 1) Utilize only platforms designed for use in elevating personnel with forklifts. These platforms must meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993. 2) Train all employees about the hazard of falls associated with improper elevating methods, and the proper application and use of safety platforms. This violation requires both certification and documentation as appropriate proof of abatement.
