Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a falling hazard: Bldg. 2, Shipping Dept.: Minao high lift truck order picker, Serial #17089113, Model 06-08513 was not provided with an appropriate safety platform to access upper storage shelving exposing employee(s) to a fall onto the concrete floor below. Violation observed on or about 4/13/99 Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is meet the requirements set forth in ANSI/ASME B56.1-1993, Section 7.35.1, 7.35.2. These platforms shall have: 1. A skid resistant surface. 2. Provide a restraining means such as a guardrail, or a means for securing personnel such as a body belt and lanyard.
