Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with being struck by motor vehicle traffic traveling along the access road: Outside Stockyard A) Employees operating fork lift trucks are exposed to motor vehicle traffic traveling along the access road adjacent to the outside stockyard while unloading material from flat bed trucks. B) Employees walking along the access road inspecting the stockyard are exposed to motor vehicle traffic traveling along the access road adjacent to the outside stockyard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be to install a guard rail or jersey barriers along the access road to protect employees walking along the stockyard fence and operating fork lift trucks while unloading material from flat bed trucks.
