Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that they were not protected from the hazard of been struck by the moving trucks: a)Sal-Car Transfer Station, Yard: Employees assigned to pick-up garbage at the loading area of the yard were not protected from the hazard of being struck by moving trucks, while waiting for their "loads" outside of their vehicles, on or about 4/14/98. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct this hazard, is to ensure that employees follow the company written policy of staying inside their vehicles while waiting for their "garbage" loads.ge"
