Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 : The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the employees were exposed to fire/explosion hazards, from the ignition of flammable vapors: a)Plant, West side: The Harris Compactor/Baler (HRB-104-S) was used to crush aerosol spray cans containing Hydrocarbon Propellants (butane, isobutane, propane and various blends), on or about 12/01/97. Abatement note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to sort the incoming material and remove the aerosol cans before they can enter the compactor.
