Title 40.1-51.1,(A),Code of Virginia: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: (a) The latching device on the Rotary automotive lift would not automatically lock and needed to be jared open. This automotive in ground lift was located in the grease house. (b) The stiff arm or latching device shaft on the Rotary automotive lift was badly rusted as it had not been kept lubricated and sometimes sticks when the lift is being raised. (c) No operating instructions could be found for the operator of the Rotary in-ground automotive lift. (d) Periodic inspections of the Rotary in-ground automotive lift had not been performed as was evident by the above deficiencies. One feasible and acceptable method among others, to correct this hazard is to adhere to the American National Standards Institute B153.1-1990 for automotive lifts, sections 4.1.11, 4.1.12, 7.2.1 and 7.3, safety requirements for the construction, care and use of automotive lifts.tive
