Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and/or caught by, and of being thrown from a powered industrial truck in eh event of sudden stops, turns, or movements of potential overturn or tipping: Among other methods, one feasible and useful method to correct this hazard is to ensure operators of powered industrial trucks are trained on the proper use of safety belts and to undertake a program of periodic inspections to enforce the wear of seat belts as outlined in American National Standards Institute ANSI B56.1a-1989 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B56.1-1993 - Safety Standards for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks.
