Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) F/T Ocean Rover: At the upper box station where an extension cord was routed through the door opening, the cord had been caught between the door and its enclosure and had sustained damage in that the inner conductors had been crimped and crushed. This condition presented a potential electrocution hazard if bare conductors were allowed to contact the metal door facing and decking. Note: One feasible and useful method of abatement, among others, would be to install an electrical outlet in the box station which would prevent the use of extension cords in that area.
