Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Action of 1979: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the potential hazard of electrical burns while using a duplex outlet having reversed polarity as a power source for tools and extension cords: (a)M/V Sea Alaska: A duplex receptacle attached to the front of a workbench located on the port side of the upper water maker indicated reversed polarity when tested with the Ideal Circuit Tester 61-035. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have a qualified/certified electrician to repair the unit by reversing the wiring connections on the receptacle terminals.
