Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard being caught by rotating parts: Location: Old boiler room On or about 1/30/97, a) A Ridgid 300 pipe threading machine was not provided with an effective means to shut off the power other than the motor control switch located on the frame of the machine. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS: To install a momentary contact device and follow the Ridge Tool Company's "Important Footswitch Policy" described in the letter to All Ridgid Distributors dated October 26, 1987 and in the letter dated February 2, 1993 to All Authorized Service Centers.
