Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads and/or falling hoist parts: a) Maintenance Shop - The Budget overhead hoist was not kept in good repair in that; (1) The supporting structure did not have a load rating test, (2) The retainer clip on the hook was missing, (3) Frequent and periodic inspections were not conducted with written, signed, dated reports/records on the hoist, (4) A preventive maintenance program was not developed and implemented. Observed 12/02/97. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop a preventive maintenance program in accordance with the hoist manufacturer's specifications and also ANSI B30.16. NOTE: ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.TION
